They are fibrous insulation materials obtained from minerals such as basalt, limestone and dolomite. Although it is produced by different methods, the production principle is similar to glass wool. As in glass wool, low-density ones are in the form of rolls, and high-density ones are in the form of sheets. Mattresses with galvanized rabitz wire sewn on rock wool are extensively used in industrial thermal insulation. Our rockwool varieties include;

Mechanical Properties

Properties such as compressive strength and tensile strength in rock wool are generally less at low densities and more at high densities as in glass wool.

Sensitivity to Water

Stone wool is also an open porous material. Air gap covers 99% of the material. In this respect, if precautions are not taken, it gets wet easily. However, it is claimed that some silicon-added materials do not get wet.

Sensitivity to Chemical Substances

Stone wool types with calcium in their composition are not resistant to harsh acids. If there is sulfur in its composition, it corrodes the metal surfaces it comes into contact with.

Temperature Resistance and Combustion Condition

In general, its temperature resistance can reach up to 750oC. However, the organic binders in its composition melt above 250oC and the material is no longer reusable. The material is among non-combustible products.

Vapor Impermeability

Stone wool has a low μ value like glass wool. This value varies between 1.1 and 1.4 . For this reason, in applications in cold areas where there is a risk of steam diffusion and condensation is not desired, a vapor-proof material should be brought to the hot side of the stone wool.
