Information on Chimney Cleaning, Prevention of Poisoning, and Roof Safety.
26.02.2025

Dear Members,

  1. Ensure your stove is close to the chimney and use as few pipes as possible during installation. 2. Soot will inevitably form in chimneys as a result of combustion. This soot will reduce combustion quality and cause blockages. Therefore, it is vital to have your chimneys cleaned and inspected at regular intervals (at least once a year) by authorized and experienced companies/individuals with the necessary equipment. 3. Pipe connection points should be sealed with aluminum foil to prevent leaks and prevent possible carbon monoxide poisoning/death. 4. The stove's ash container should be filled to a maximum of two-thirds capacity before burning. A fully filled stove causes significant air pollution during the initial combustion. 5. Never clean your chimney with sacks or similar objects. If these become lodged inside, the chimney may become blocked and unusable. 6. After cleaning, always have the chimney draft checked. 7. In steel-chimney systems using natural gas, a drainage channel is located in the elbow at the bottom of the vertical chimney to prevent some of the water vapor expelled from the chimney from accumulating at the base. To prevent the water that accumulates as a result of the blockage of this channel from flowing back into the boiler, natural gas stove, or combi boiler and causing difficult-to-repair malfunctions, it is necessary to have the chimney inspected annually and obtain a certificate stating that there are no problems. 8. Due to the weakening and loss of load-bearing capacity of the materials used in the roof coverings of workplaces over time, this should be taken into consideration during roof operations such as chimney cleaning, and work should not be carried out without taking the necessary occupational safety measures. 9. It is prohibited to burn petroleum coke, mineral oil, car plastic parts, tires, manure, solid waste and textile waste, cables, wet wood, painted wood, plastics, household waste such as household items and food waste, special waste, medical waste, asphalt and asphalt products, paint and paint products, and fuel oil containers for heating purposes . 10. It is prohibited to discharge any type of waste and residue directly or indirectly into receiving environments such as air, soil, water, sewage, roads, etc., in a way that harms the environment; to store it for a long time in a manner that violates standards; to burn it; and to mix it with other wastes. Legal action will be initiated if detected.

NOTE: Natural gas lines are available throughout OSTİM. Besides being safe, economical, and environmentally friendly, you can also subscribe to natural gas for heating purposes thanks to the ease of the subscription process.
