Clustering refers to sustainable, organized activities undertaken by firms, supporting organizations, and research institutions within a specific geographical region and value chain in a particular sector, working together to achieve defined goals. As a regional development policy tool, the clustering approach aims to highlight sectors in which regions have a competitive advantage and strengthen their competitiveness within those sectors.
Clusters can benefit from many public support programs. Foremost among these is the UR-GE support provided by the Turkish Ministry of Trade, which assists cluster member firms in international markets.
Hosting seven sectoral clusters, OSTİM is one of the pioneers of clustering in Türkiye. The following clusters operate within OSTİM: Business and Construction Machinery Cluster (İŞİM), OSTİM Defense and Aerospace Cluster (OSSA), OSTİM Medical Industry Cluster, OSTİM Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies Cluster, Anatolian Rail Transportation Systems Cluster (ARUS), OSTİM Rubber Technologies Cluster, and Communication Technologies Cluster.
OSTİM clusters have successfully completed over 20 R&D projects and continue their work with new projects.
OSTİM also spearheaded the establishment of the Anatolian Clusters Cooperation Platform, aiming to ensure cooperation and coordination among clusters and cluster initiatives in Turkey.
AKIP continues its activities in line with the advanced objectives stated below;
- To raise awareness about clustering studies, which are a regional development model, and to disseminate and develop these studies in Turkey,
- To support the development of relations with central authorities, local authorities, and universities,
- To ensure coordination among clusters and cluster initiatives, to share information and experiences, and to encourage and support the development of new clusters,
- To increase inter-cluster collaborations and partnerships, to develop, present, and execute joint projects,
- To actively participate in international cooperation networks and platforms and to ensure the inclusion of clusters in global value and supply chains by promoting them internationally,
- To contribute to the development and implementation of national clustering policies and support models.
