Yepsan, Yüksel Kompozit, and Gür Metal, members of the OSTİM Defence and Aerospace Cluster (OSSA), have successfully entered the global supply chain of Boeing, a leading global aerospace brand.
Boeing, working with its stakeholders and business partners in Turkey, has taken the first step in its National Aviation Plan, developed to support the global competitiveness and sustainable growth of the Turkish aviation industry in line with Turkey's 2023 vision. The Boeing Turkey Aviation Industry Development Program, a key element of the plan, was launched. The program's opening ceremony, held under the auspices of the Undersecretariat of Defence Industries (SSM), took place in Istanbul with the participation of over 100 companies.
Brian Baird, Vice President of Supply Chain Management for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said, "With this program, we aim to increase the Turkish aviation industry's share of the global supply chain, its global competitiveness, and the number of competing companies."
Boeing Turkey General Manager Ayşem Sargın Işıl also emphasized that Turkey is a country with strong growth in the aviation sector. Işıl stated that Turkey, with its high-standard manufacturing industry, highly skilled engineers, and competent human resources, contributes significantly to Boeing's efficiency and competitiveness, contributing to Boeing's global success.
The opening program included positive developments for OSSA. Boeing officials announced that cluster members Yepsan, Yüksel Kompozit, and Gür Metal have been included in Boeing's subcontractor group.
Will benefit SMEs
Officials, mentioning the challenging processes of working with Boeing, highlighted the importance of AS9100 quality certificates and other certifications, emphasizing that they pay attention to many factors such as companies' long-term investment plans, financial strength, and the size of the companies' locations.
Boeing will establish long-term collaborations with Turkish companies in areas such as maintenance and repair, certification, training, and supply chain management. The global giant can also contribute to the development and institutionalization of SMEs through projects that can be carried out jointly with the Industrial Competence Assessment and Support Program (EYDEP).
The Benefits of Clustering
Mehmet Baş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of YEPSAN Aviation Inc., stated that they have begun to see the benefits of participating in clustering initiatives and that they believe they will soon be undertaking similar projects with Airbus.
