Industrial production, which had slowed down due to measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic, is strengthening and increasing with the normalization process that began on June 1, 2020.

Electricity consumption, a leading indicator of industrial production, plays a dominant role in the overall production performance of Organized Industrial Zones (OIZs).

The latest data reflecting the electricity consumption graph of OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone has reached a record high. In Ankara's long-established industrial zone, the highest figure ever recorded in electricity consumption for the month of June was achieved in the last 7 years, a figure that reflects the pulse of production.

According to the monthly electricity consumption data published by the Energy Directorate of the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Regional Directorate, electricity consumption, which was recorded at 8,616,082 kWh in May, increased by 2,940,912 kWh to a total of 11,556,920 kWh in June.

This was also the highest consumption recorded in OSTİM in June of the last 7 years. The figure for June 2019 was 9,025,294 kWh.

The data can be accessed at https://www.ostim.org.tr/ElectricGraph.

Consumption reflects the performance of industrial production.

OSTİM Chairman Orhan Aydın stated last month that electricity consumption reflects the performance of industrial production. Aydın said, “Electricity consumption hasn't decreased excessively compared to the same period last year; according to our measurements, it's around 10 percent. The decrease in industrial production in Turkey is being discussed in the range of 30-40 percent. For OSTİM, it hasn't been at that level; this is quite clearly seen in our electricity consumption. It's not a very large decrease in such a period. As you've explained in previous years, SMEs are able to show more flexibility, resilience, and agile reflexes against these types of crises; this is quite clear from this measurement.”
