OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone's Green Organized Industrial Zone Certificate, approved at the Silver Level with 56 points, was presented to our OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Board Chairman, Mr. Orhan Aydın, by the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, and the President of the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE), Mahmut Sami Şahin.
Major breakthrough in Organized Industrial Zones
In his speech at the 23rd Ordinary General Assembly of the Union of Organized Industrial Zones of Turkey (OSBÜK), Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır delivered important messages to OSB representatives. Kacır stated: “Today, simply producing is no longer enough; we must increase the number of strong Turkish brands that have a voice in world markets with their design and quality. We are pleased to see that our businesses that focus on high value-added products, increase their R&D and design capacity, and adopt sustainable production models are climbing to much higher levels in global value chains.”
We have increased the number of Organized Industrial Zones (OIZs), which strengthen our country's position in global value chains with their infrastructure, logistics, clustering opportunities, and qualified employment capacity, from 191 to 371. There is no longer a province without an OIZ. The number of production facilities operating in OIZs has increased from 11,000 in 2002 to 60,000 today, and employment has risen from 415,000 to 2,700,000. During the same period, we increased the total area of our OIZs and Industrial Zones from 48,000 hectares to 155,000 hectares. With the 90 billion Turkish Lira of favorable financing provided by our Ministry, we ensured that our OIZs rapidly completed their infrastructure and environmental investments; transforming them into more modern, greener, and competitive production centers. We know that one of the most fundamental expectations of our industrialists is access to planned industrial areas under favorable conditions.”
Target: Green Organized Industrial Zone Certificate in Gold Category
OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) Chairman Orhan Aydın, in his assessment after the presentation of the Green OSB Certificate, pointed out that OSTİM received the Green OSB certificate in the Silver category, noting that there is no OSB in Turkey that has yet received the certificate in the Gold category, and said, "We will further increase our efforts and sustainability sensitivity to obtain the Green OSB Certificate in the Gold category."
Emphasizing that the world is a trust to be handed over to future generations, President Aydın stated: “We have to hand over the world to the generations after us in a better and more livable state. We have prepared a comprehensive sustainability report for OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, identifying what needs to be considered to make the region greener. We are making every effort to make OSTİM a more organized and livable region. We see these not as obligations, but as our duty. We need to do this work not for the European Union, but as individuals and as a society. We must do this work to leave the world in a sustainable state.”
