The 9th Graduation Projects Exhibition of Başkent University's Faculty of Engineering was opened with a ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Başkent University Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, touched upon the university's work with industrial zones, stating, "OSTİM is at the heart of Başkent University's activities."

In addition to Başkent University Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, the opening ceremony was attended by Başkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Haberal, Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Nurettin Özdebir, OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, Anadolu Organized Industrial Zone Board Chairman Hüseyin Kutsi Tuncay, industrialists, representatives of civil society organizations, and student parents.

This year's 9th Graduation Projects Exhibition showcased a total of 76 diverse projects from the departments of computer engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical-electronics engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering.

“Our Most Important Asset is Our Students”

Professor Dr. Mehmet Haberal, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Başkent University, emphasized the importance of university-industry collaborations. Stating that they work closely with industry, Haberal said, “OSTİM is a very active region that forms the basis of Başkent University's activities. Anadolu OSB is another region we work with.

We aspire to serve the country; like all of us, our primary duty is to elevate this country. We aspire to two achievements. Our most important asset is our students, whose projects we can be proud of today. We must contribute to the development and advancement of our country by integrating our students into our nation.”

“What matters is what you do with your knowledge”

Ankara Chamber of Industry President Nurettin Özdebir emphasized that the 21st century is witnessing very rapid changes in science, industry, and technology. Highlighting the importance of being able to exist and compete within this change, Özdebir continued his speech as follows: “We have now moved beyond the competition between countries; we must now talk about the global competition of individuals. Around the same time as you, university students graduated in many parts of the world. They will compete for the positions you aspire to, both in their own countries and elsewhere. Every individual must now consider the competition not only in our country but throughout the world. It's not what you know that matters, but what you can do with that knowledge. How you can turn that knowledge into something useful. These projects are the product of your knowledge. I am sure that in the future, as you refine your knowledge, you will do even better work.”

“Collaboration with Industry Takes Center Stage”

Başkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Haberal provided information about the university's work and ongoing projects. Emphasizing that the university's past focus on education has now shifted to prioritizing collaboration with industry alongside education and research, Haberal stated, “Now, a university means an institution that collaborates with industry. And that's the right approach. As Başkent University, we have taken significant steps in this direction. Firstly, we established the TEKMER technology center in collaboration with OSTİM, and later, the EKİN pre-incubation center. We are also working on establishing a technopark in the Kahramankazan region, which we have brought to a certain stage. The main concept here is to bring together advancements in medicine and engineering to produce projects and contribute valuable works to the country.”

“Our Graduates Are Ready for Industry 4.0”

Prof. Dr. Berna Dengiz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Başkent University, drew attention to the Industry 4.0 revolution and its implications. Stating that the faculty is fulfilling its responsibilities in this regard, Dengiz said, “Our faculty continues its efforts to graduate its students as competent engineers by developing their professional self-confidence, by implementing university-industry collaboration in practice, and by training them within an education system based on national and international standards, and by training them to design every aspect of life and to be the architects of production and design.”

"Our students have prepared themselves for real life by utilizing the professional knowledge and skills they have acquired and the abilities they have developed. They know the industry, and the industry knows them. Our graduates are prepared for and involved in Industry 4.0," he said.

Following the opening speeches, graduates who completed their studies with honors were awarded. Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Board of Directors, presented plaques to the top-performing students in the Industrial Engineering department.

Following the awards ceremony, the project exhibition area was opened. Participants examined the graduates' final projects.
