A new opportunity has been added to the technology development capabilities of entrepreneurs and SMEs in OSTİM. With the Technology Commercialization and Cultivation Center Establishment Project, supported by the Ankara Development Agency 2018 Financial Support Program, Ostim Technopark Inc. has created a workshop for technology-based firms, equipped with alternative machinery and office space, enabling prototype production and R&D activities.
The opening of the first section of the Technology Commercialization and Cultivation Center was attended by Ankara Development Agency General Secretary Arif Şayık, OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın, academics, technopark representatives, and industrialists.
“We invite entrepreneurs and academics to OSTİM”
OSTİM Board Chairman Orhan Aydın stated that they have brought a multi-purpose workshop to life, saying, “If all goes well, by the end of the year we will see a very different structure in Ankara. An environment will be created here for our industrialists, universities, technopark companies, and everyone who is working on projects to realize their dreams. We are opening the first section of the Technology Commercialization Cultivation Center, which was created with the support of our Ankara Development Agency.”
Providing information about Ostim Technopark, Aydın stated that in addition to the Orange Building, the Turquoise Building, approximately 15,000 square meters, has also become operational next to the OSTİM Metro Station. Underlining that the Technology Development Zone is not just about buildings, Orhan Aydın said: “In our region, there are dozens of plots where small-scale production can be carried out, technology can be developed, and R&D can be conducted. The difference of our technology development zone is that it allows for the creation of environments where production can take place. Therefore, we want to share this with our industrialists and R&D companies.”
We invite all our companies, entrepreneurs, and academics who produce high-quality products and conduct R&D to our region and to OSTİM. OSTİM Technopark has another unique feature; we have seven partner universities here. This is not a very common structure in Turkey. TOBB, Ankara, Atılım, Başkent, Çankaya, Hacettepe, and OSTİM Technical Universities are partners in the company. We believe this center will be a very good interface for enabling OSTİM residents and Turkey to benefit from the projects of all these universities, entrepreneurs, and academics. I would like to thank the Secretary General and the entire team of our Ankara Development Agency, who have not withheld their help and support from the construction phase of the project, all our partner universities, our Technopark managers, and our employees.”
The goal is domestic and national production
Ankara Development Agency Secretary General Arif Şayık emphasized that the agency's sole objective since its establishment has been domestic and national production. Noting that all support is provided in line with this goal, Şayık said, “I congratulate OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone and Ostim Technopark for applying to us and facilitating the creation of such a project in the Advanced Technology Product Commercialization Financial Support Program, which we launched in 2018.”
Highlighting the inability to commercialize products and innovations resulting from state support and university research, Şayık stated, “We believe these problems can be overcome through platforms like this. Our support will continue in this regard in the coming years. As an agency, we will strive to support projects that prioritize value-added, domestic, and national production.”
"I would like to express my gratitude to OSTİM for their contributions to the development of Ankara's ecosystem through their projects. We expect everyone to apply for Ankara Development Agency support projects," he said.
“We are within a large ecosystem”
Ostim Technopark General Manager Dr. Derya Çağlar stated that they aim to create awareness in Ankara regarding R&D and innovation by developing the ecosystem in the high and medium-high technology fields.
Çağlar stated that the Technology Production Workshop has created opportunities for rapid prototyping at low cost. He noted that they will bring academia and industry together, support young entrepreneurs, and increase collaborations with clusters, adding: “We are in a very important ecosystem. Here, there are more than 6,200 businesses, more than 60,000 employees, and our clusters, which OSTİM also supports, are our biggest supporters. With the Business and Construction Machinery Cluster, OSTİM Defense and Aerospace Cluster, Anatolian Rail Transportation Systems Cluster, OSTİM Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies Cluster, OSTİM Medical Industry Cluster, Communication Technologies Cluster, and Rubber Technologies Cluster, along with more than a thousand companies located here, we are actually part of a large ecosystem.”
