The OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone 2017 Ordinary General Assembly Meeting was held in the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone Conference Hall with the participation of all delegates.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, described the processes from the establishment of the zone to the present day. Pointing to the presence of major industrial firms operating in the defense and aerospace sectors in OSTİM and Ankara, and emphasizing that these firms represent a transformative step for OSTİM, Aydın said, “This is very valuable. There are many organized industrial zones in Turkey similar in number to ours. But there aren't many places that can produce products of this quality and standard. In OSTİM, you can find hundreds and thousands of firms with internationally recognized quality and standards.”

Touching upon the clusters successfully implemented in the region, Aydın emphasized that the clustering model is applied in European and developed countries, and stated: “We know and can do this as much as they do. Therefore, we are bringing it to our region knowingly, believingly, and by following what the world is doing, and we are generating added value from it.”

“Our Slogan: My Factory is OSTIM”

Touching upon the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Aydın said, “SMEs will solve this country's problems. Large companies from abroad will not be able to solve them.”

Explaining the production infrastructure and advantages in OSTİM, President Aydın said, “A company here isn't just a 300-square-meter firm! It operates within a 5 million-square-meter area. For bolt manufacturers, there's no need to stock anything; there's no need to stock sheet metal. There's no need to buy laser cutting equipment. There's no need to set up a paint shop. There's no need to set up a quality control department. All of these things are here. If you can think of it, if you can design it, you can make whatever you want here. Our slogan is; ‘My Factory is OSTİM.’ When people create their designs, they can produce anything here.”

Orhan Aydın noted that OSTİM has also tried to undertake large-scale projects, and continued: “Increasing technology in Turkey, escaping the middle-income trap, and producing high value-added products; these are all separate topics. We have brought the university-industry collaboration aspects and cluster studies to such a point that the work we have done here has also become part of the policies of our Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. We are the region that brought the technology development zone from the university campus into the heart of industry. Later, our Ministry made this a policy.”

OSTİM Technical University will be a model

Providing information about OSTİM Technical University, whose law was approved in 2017, Mayor Aydın said that they planned a university focused on solving the problems of production and industry.

Stating that they wanted to showcase this as a model to other industrial zones in Turkey, Orhan Aydın said, “We believe in this. And we have prepared all our infrastructure to do so. God willing, in the 2019-2020 academic year, we will be working side-by-side with industrialists who have students in 7 departments here, using each of our workshops and companies as a laboratory, and incorporating the resources there into education. We want to be a model industrial zone in Turkey that is application-oriented, hands-on, and brings this to life.”

Aydın, reminding everyone that all the activities carried out were a team effort, thanked the board of directors, the supervisory board, the OSTİM OSB staff, and the delegates.

At the General Assembly, where Sıtkı Öztuna was unanimously elected as the Chairman and Evren Bulut and Fazlı Akın as members of the Board, OSTİM OSB Regional Manager Adem Arıcı presented the 2017 activities. Information was given about the 2018 work program. During the meeting, the 2017 activity report, the 2018 work program, income and expenditure accounts, the 2018 budget, and the audit committee report were read and discussed, and then unanimously approved.

In the election held to determine the board of directors, the supervisory board, and the representatives of the Organized Industrial Zones Supreme Council (OSBÜK); Orhan Aydın, Sıtkı Öztuna, Behzat Zeydan, and A. Mithat Ertuğ were elected to the Board of Directors, and Mehmet Alkan and Süleyman Eser were elected to the Supervisory Board. Orhan Aydın, Erol Barutçu, and Faruk Görmez were unanimously elected as OSTİM OSB's representatives to OSBÜK.
