In this project, implemented by OSTİMSPOR and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports' Youth Projects Support Program (GPDP) 2015-1, young people aged 14-27 who are working or studying are offered next-generation training in eight areas ranging from design to production and entrepreneurship.
In the OSTİM region, a groundbreaking initiative has been launched to train young people in line with the Industry 4.0 concept. With the project called ‘OSTİM Maker’, young people are given the opportunity to make unlimited mistakes and experiment through trial and error in workshops that embrace next-generation education, essentially being told, ‘You can do it too.’
With the OSTİM Maker Project, themed ‘Next Generation Trainings at the Heart of Production’, 40 young people who are studying or working are given training on eight topics ranging from design to production and entrepreneurship, on Thursdays and Fridays.
In the lessons held at OSTİM Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, students are taught how to produce and design inexpensively, effectively, and easily using 3D printers. The electronics and robotics section covers the use of electronic circuit boards, how to use interfaces that connect the outside world with technology, and what can be done with electronic circuit boards and robot kits in the coding section. Following these stages, the Entrepreneurship Workshop, one of the most important aspects of the project, will cover the commercialization processes of the designed product.
Mentorship Support for 8 Projects
At the end of the training, participants will have generated ideas using their imagination to meet their own needs. Future entrepreneurs will showcase their projects at the Maker Fair. Successful projects at the Maker Fair will be rewarded. Eight successful project owners will receive mentorship for two months. Additionally, a seminar and a two-hour workshop will be provided to 72 aspiring Makers who are open to everyone and say, "I also want to experience this process and create my own project."
Some of the work within the project has already begun to show results. Young people have already started to bring many ideas to life, such as a drill that can detect through walls and a Bluetooth-enabled key fob that eliminates the need to carry a keychain.
OSTİMSPOR released the following statement regarding the project: “Our project is designed for young people aged 14-27 who are working or studying in the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone. Approximately 12,000 young people are employed in SMEs and schools located in OSTİM. In OSTİM, a productive region, we aim to lay the foundation for a generation that thinks, designs, and produces with passion through new generation training, workshops, and various organizations provided to our young people with this project.”
We will cultivate OSTİM Makers through a learning-based system, moving away from rote memorization, and fostering a 'Do-it-yourself' culture where young people learn through experience in workshops. To ensure the project's sustainability, we are also planning the establishment of a Maker Lab Workshop. In this way, we will continue to cultivate not only OSTİM Makers but also Makers in Ankara.”
What is the Maker Movement?
The Maker Movement is a movement that enables people to create technological products. Thanks to this movement, individuals and children can create many products made by large companies, such as smart homes, mobile phones, and vehicle sensors. Developing these products requires tools such as electronic circuit infrastructure, coding/computer programming, and 3D printing, as well as training in these areas. After receiving this training, individuals can produce their own needs using their imagination, even in their own homes. The Maker Movement can transform every home into a miniature factory.
In short, OSTİMSPOR
OSTİMSPOR Club was founded in 1986 with the aim of supporting young people working or studying in industry in cultural, social, and sporting matters related to human capital, and to create common regional policies on these issues. In line with this, it continues its work to ensure that the spirit of industry is represented in sports and to contribute to the mental and physical health of working youth.
The club organizes various activities including the OSTİM Turkish Folk Music Choir, a football bowling tournament among OSTİM companies, and nature walks; it also conducts orienteering events, game workshops, and the OSTİM youth football league for children and young people in schools in the region.
