Who is the Occupational Safety Specialist?

Architects, engineers or technical personnel who complete the occupational safety training program and succeed in the exam to be held or to be made by the ministry at the end of the training are called Occupational Safety Specialists.

Technical Staff: Technical teachers and graduates of physics or chemistry departments of science/science and literature faculties of universities or occupational safety technicians.

Who Must Have an Occupational Safety Specialist?

According to the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, workplaces in the dangerous and very dangerous group that employ even 1 worker must have an occupational physician as of 01/01/2014.

What are the Responsibilities of the Occupational Safety Specialist?

A) Guidance and Counseling;

Planning, organization and implementation of the work, including the design, condition, maintenance, selection of machinery and other equipment and the materials used in relation to the work done and changes to be made in the workplace, the selection, supply, use, maintenance, storage and testing of personal drying equipment, To provide advice to the employer to ensure that it is maintained in accordance with occupational health and safety legislation and general occupational safety rules.

B) Risk Assessment;

To ensure that the risk assessment is carried out; To plan the necessary work and to make suggestions to the employer about the health and safety measures to be taken and to follow up.

C) Work Environment Surveillance;

1- To monitor the working environment, to plan the periodic maintenance, controls and measurements that should be done in terms of occupational health and safety in the workplace and to control their implementation.

2- To carry out studies in accordance with the legislation and to follow the practices in order to prevent accidents, fires or explosions in the workplace; To ensure that situation plans are prepared for situations such as natural disasters, accidents, fires or explosions, to have periodic trainings and exercises, and to act in line with the emergency plan.

ç) Education, Information and Registration;

1- To plan and implement occupational health and safety trainings in accordance with the relevant legislation.

2- To record the studies related to the surveillance of the working environment and to prepare the annual evaluation report in cooperation with the workplace doctor.

D) Cooperation with Relevant Units;

1- To evaluate work accidents and occupational diseases by cooperating with the workplace doctor, to prepare preventive action plans by examining and researching to prevent the dangerous event from recurring, and to follow up the practices.

2- To prepare the annual work plan in cooperation with the workplace doctor.
