The employer is obliged to appoint a Workplace Physician within the scope of the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 in order to determine and monitor the implementation of the occupational health measures to be taken at the workplaces, to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases, to carry out the first aid and emergency treatment and preventive health and safety services of the employees. As of 01.01.2013, workplaces with more than 50 employees and workplaces in the dangerous and very dangerous class are included in this scope.

First Workplace Medicine Practice in Turkey
Dilaver Pasha Regulation in 1865, in which various issues related to occupational health were discussed for the Ereğli and Zonguldak coal basins, is the first application related to Occupational Medicine in Turkey.
Later, many laws and regulations were enacted in the Republican period and the Ministry of Labor was established in 1946.
Social insurance laws, labor laws, occupational health and safety laws and regulations were enacted.
The most valuable one is the law numbered 151 on the Ereğli coal basin worker's law, which was enacted during the national struggle.

Occupational Medicine Today
Today, workplace medicine aims at a working environment where the necessary conditions for a humanely healthy and social life are provided with its well-attended, certified, documented, knowledgeable and expert-supported employees. The Turkish National Program for the Adoption of the European Union Acquis was put into practice in 2003. Occupational health and safety practices in our country are commonly carried out by OSGBs authorized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, inspections and guidance are provided.

Guidance and Counseling
To advise on occupational health, hygiene, collective protection methods and personal protective equipment.
To carry out periodic inspections at the workplace within the scope of occupational health and safety studies, to participate in risk assessment studies, to conduct preventive health examinations.

Health Surveillance
Arranging the employment and periodic health examinations of the workers appropriately and keeping them in the workplace,
To carry out preventive and immunization studies for the control of communicable diseases, to ensure that porter examinations are carried out,
According to the results of the health surveillance, to propose the necessary measurements within the scope of the surveillance of the working environment, in cooperation with the occupational safety specialist, if available, and to evaluate the measurement results.

Organization of first aid and emergency response services in the workplace, providing information and training in the field of hygiene and ergonomics
