Of these, fire suppression systems and smoke control are the main subject of mechanical engineering engineering.
American NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards and European standards are most commonly applied in fire installations in our country.
Fire extinguishing systems can be grouped under two main headings.
Water Extinguishing Systems: The extinguishing equipment used in the installation are fire cabinets and sprinklers. Sprinkler is the sprinkler head that opens when it reaches a certain temperature. Water extinguishing systems are divided into two as dry pipe and wet pipe.
In the dry pipe system , there is a dry alarm valve at the entrance of the extinguishing installation. The extinguishing system is filled with compressed air. When the sprinkler or fire cabinet in the extinguishing system is opened, the air pressure in the system drops. When the air pressure drops to a certain value, the dry alarm valve will open and water will enter the extinguishing system. It is generally used in places where there is danger of freezing.
In the wet pipe system , there is a wet alarm valve at the entrance of the extinguishing installation. Pressurized water is ready in the extinguishing system. When the pressure of the water drops, the wet alarm valve opens and sounds the gong attached to it.
Gas Extinguishing Systems: Gas extinguishing systems are used in places where water damage will be high, such as data processing rooms, archive rooms. The room is quickly filled with FM 200 or NOVEC gas in the event of a fire. The air required for combustion is removed from the environment and the fire is extinguished.
